FAQs For Attorneys, Conservators, Trust Officers, and Other Advisors

1. What is Home Care and what services do you provide?

Home Care services encompass all assistance with what are known as “Activities of Daily Living” (“ADL’s”). These services include:
  • Help with personal hygiene (bathing, hair care, tooth brushing,), dressing, and ambulation.
  • Companionship, errands, transportation, travel, light housekeeping.
  • Cooking, assistance with eating, feeding, and medication reminders.

We are not permitted to dispense medications, handle IV’s, insert or remove catheters, or perform sterile procedures. For more information, please click here on “Our Home Care Services”.

We are accustomed to communicating regularly with families, MD’s and fiduciaries. We can provide written updates on your condition to your family members (with your written permission) daily.

2. What Services Do Koved’s Care Managers Provide?

Our care managers provide comprehensive, advocacy driven oversight of all aspects of care for our clients. This includes continuous assessment, care planning, placement support, managing all in-home services, and crisis intervention. For more information, please "click here" to learn more about  “The Value of Care Management”.

3. Why does Koved Care Employ a Multi-Disciplinary Care Management Model?

RN's and Mental Health professionals bring complimentary skills to the Care Management task.  RN care managers have medical training and experience that enables them to identify and rapidly seek treatment for subtle changes in medical status or drug interactions that could otherwise escalate into crisis situations.  By responding early, we are often able to obtain office-based treatment, avoiding the disruption and exposure of emergency room visits and hospital stays.

Our licensed mental health professionals provide expertise in identifying and addressing clients' psycho-social needs, and in assisting them to access social-service and community resources.  Multiple studies show that clients with professional care managers experience fewer hospitalizations and emergency room visits.

4. Why Should I Choose Koved Care?

Koved provides qualified, specialized care managers and staffing for Geriatric, Psychiatric, Addiction Recovery, Oncology and Palliative Care cases.   We don't have a "one type fits all" approach.

We have a stated policy of changing staff a little as possible once the right matches are established. We believe that it is crucial to match caregivers whose skills and personality are a good fit with the client’s needs, personality and lifestyle.

5. How do you work with skilled home health agencies?

Our care managers are available to facilitate getting prescriptions for skilled services from your client’s MD. They will then arrange and monitor delivery of all skilled “Home Health” services (IV’s, catheters, OT, PT, etc) and medical equipment. There is a separate charge for such services. Absent a care manager, you or your client must ask the MD to prescribe skilled services. Usually, the MD’s office staff will refer a provider of such services, but you or your client will be responsible for arranging times, and monitoring their activities.

6. Do you employ the Caregiver you send me or must my client employ them?

All caregivers assigned by Koved are our employees. We pay for all related taxes and insurance.

7. What kinds of Insurance do you have and what are your coverage limits?

We carry General Liability coverage of $2.0 million per occurrence and $4.0 million per year, Theft Bonding of $50,000 per occurrence, and full Workers Compensation insurance.

8. How do I know that they are trained and experienced?

We only hire trained, experienced care givers.

9. What happens if my client is not happy with the person(s) you assign?

We believe that clients and care givers must be comfortable with each other in order provide good service. If for any reason they are unhappy with your care giver, we will assign a different person.

10. How are your employees screened?

We perform criminal, DMV and medical background checks, and call several professional references on all prospective employees.

11. Are references available?

Yes, upon request.

12. Can my client stop services anytime they want, or are they bound by a contract for a certain period of time?

They can stop services at any time with 24 hours notice.

13. How do you get paid?

We bill clients / fiduciaries directly on a weekly basis, and payment is due upon receipt.

14. What insurance do you take?

Home care services are generally not covered by Medicare or health insurance. Some clients have long-term care insurance. Coverage varies according to your specific policy. In some cases we may be able to bill your carrier for the portion they cover, and we will bill directly for the balance, as described in # 14, above.

15. What are your professional affiliations?

Koved Care is a member of CAHSAH (the California Association for Health Care Services at Home). Some Care Managers belong as individuals to the National Association of Geriatric Care Managers (Companies cannot be members, only individuals).

16. Do you take clients immediately? Is there a waiting period?

We are usually able to staff cases immediately. We might then make future adjustments to the staffing choices if the personality match is not optimal.

17. What if your services do not meet my client’s needs? How is transition handled?

That is largely up to the client . If they wish to discontinue our services, they may do so with as little as 24 hours notice. If they decide you want to make a change, but they need some time to do so, we will work with them to arrange a smooth transition, if feasible.
